Martin Luther King Day of Service 2024

The Gloucester Democratic City Committee will honor the memory of Martin Luther King with a day of service on Saturday, January 13, 2024 from 9am – 3pm.  As we have done in past years,  we will stand outside Gloucester’s Market Basket and urge shoppers to donate non-perishable food, which we will sort and pack and load into the Open Door’s truck. Help us “Catch a Ton of Tuna” and fill that truck!

The Open Door is our local food pantry, that distributes nutritious food  on Cape Ann and in adjoining towns: food deliveries, a mobile market; holiday baskets, grocery orders to be picked up at their facility on Emerson Ave. including staples like diapers and pet food. As the cold weather pushes families into the cruel “heat or eat” dilemma, the Open Door’s work is more critical than ever. In addition to providing food, they help to connect their clients with housing, job training, and medical care.

So, when you are out at Market Basket on January 13, 2024, please drop a donation in the box! Monetary donations to The Open Door are also welcome. The GDCC is honored to help the Open Door do its essential work, and we are glad to have the amazing support from the Cape Ann community to help make that happen every year.
