Letter from the Chair
Once more, the writing process of this month’s ‘Letter from the Chair’ could be diagramed using one of those (outdated) charts that show the progress of evolution.
The rollercoaster ride from the amazing and inspiring ‘NO KINGS’ rallies to a triumphant Election Day, through the capitulation of several Democrats to the GOP shutdown has been exhausting. I had written two entire versions of this letter previously, opining on how the previous two stories were great news for Democrats. However, those are on the cutting room floor as they obviously are not the central story right now. (The accompanying photos from those earlier drafts survive below) We wouldn’t be Democrats without the capacity for some Dem electeds (thankfully none from our Commonwealth) to disappoint us tremendously.
We will have to wait and see, but the ACA – one of the greatest pieces of legislation of the 21st Century – may be effectively dead. It dies not because Democrats proposed something better and fought for it – it was still in many ways a big handout to corporate insurance companies rather than a single-payer or Medicare-for-all scheme that cut out such vultures. No, the ACA is on it’s last breaths because several feckless Dems who felt safe (they’ve got healthcare) manifested a cave so massive that you could lose a Thai soccer team down it. And their reasoning is based on a ‘pinky-promise’ that we might get a vote to save the ACA subsidies in December – which we would probably lose anyway.
I’m pissed off, and exhausted, and I’m sure a lot of you are as well. We cannot expect people to rally to our cause or Party when we offer no cause or capitulate so easily.
We must do better.

November Meeting
Join us for a meeting & Election Debrief!
We will be holding our November meeting THIS WEDNESDAY, November 12th, at 6:30 pm at the Cape Ann Savings Bank Community Room, at 123 Main St on the 3rd Floor.
It’s November, and as we do EVERY year, this is our opportunity to have an election debrief with our members, to talk about the campaigns, the issues and results – both locally and nationally – and look ahead to next year.
Join us for the meeting, then feel free to join us after for drinks and a nosh at a nearby establishment to continue to conversation and camaraderie.

We have A VACANCY at the moment that we need to fill! We have an opening for a new Ward Three Committee Chair.
What do they do?
Ward Three Chair. In a Democratic City Committee, each ward has it’s own ward committee – though the GDCC generally meets as a whole city-wide org. Each of these committees needs a chair, and Ward Three is currently vacant. A ward chair helps organize their neighbors for Democratic activities and helps to build our membership in their slice of the city. Yes, you MUST live in Ward Three [your polling place is the High School].
