Join us at our June Meeting!

Our June meeting will begin at 7pm, on Wednesday, June 11th!

As the chaos of the administration spreads, the world can seem dark and out of control. Still, we persist. There’s a lot of bad news out there, but there is also room for hope. This month we’re going to take our meeting time to powwow about what gives us hope, and what WE CAN DO as individuals and groups to create positive change in the coming months.

NO KINGS!

Join a Local March for NO KING’S DAY!

If you don’t plan to be in Boston for the Pride or the NO KINGS MARCH held there on June 14th, the great folks over at Cape Ann Indivisible are organizing a local march right here in Gloucester!

Gathering at Stage Fort Park at noon on Saturday, June 14th and marching to the Fishermen’s Wives’ Statue, this rally will be our local voice in the global chorus telling this administration that patriotism is not loyalty oaths and birthday parades.

CAI asks you to bring American flags and signs to march with. The event is expected to last until 2pm.

WHERE DID BRUNCH GO?

Did I miss it?

As longtime followers of the GDCC might have noticed, we did not hold our annual brunch this year. To explain why not, the short answer is “life happened.” As Democrats, we are the Party that deals with reality and living actual life on the ground – and some of that overtook our abilities to plan the brunch ‘as usual’ for Spring 2025,

Another big factor in the brunch shakeup is cost. This is and has been for many years our primary fundraiser for the year. With costs increasing (thanks to you know who) we were getting to the point that – in order to still raise money or break even – we might have to increase the base ticket price to $60, $70, or more! We acknowledge that we are privileged that many in our community CAN pay that price for tickets – but a big communal event like this should be accessible to ALL.

But fret not! We are planning future community events and gatherings! Movie nights, maybe bringing back the Wine and Cheese confab, and yes, maybe a new take on our classic brunch. COMMITTEE VACANCIES

Come join our leadership team!

We have TWO JOB VACANCIES at the moment that we need to fill! We have openings for a new Secretary and a Ward Three Committee Chair.

What the hell do they do?

In the GDCC, our Secretary keeps minutes of our meetings, helps keep other records – including membership – and files reports (non-financial) to the Party, State, and City. Thanks to technology and the help of AI, the tedious keeping of notes and minutes is A LOT easier than it used to be, but we DO still need someone to help keep those records.

Our other vacancy is that of Ward Three Chair. In a Democratic City Committee, each ward has it’s own ward committee – though the GDCC generally meets as a whole city-wide org. Each of these committees needs a chair, and Ward Three is currently vacant. A ward chair helps organize their neighbors for Democratic activities and helps to build our membership in their slice of the city. Yes, you MUST live in Ward Three [your polling place is the High School]

Get involved with us this Summer!

We are resurrecting an old tradition of not having formal meetings during the summer months of July and August. Lots of folks travel or have VERY busy lives during these months and our attention is often elsewhere.

That said, We have a full Summer of events starting to come together on our calendar – and we would love you to join us! Our biggest opportunity to talk to our neighbors every year are the Block Parties on Main Street We will be out and proud talking about Democratic values and how to fight the good fight.

CAUCUS 2025!

CAUCUS SEASON 2025 IS A WRAP!

Our annual caucus to elect delegates to the Massachusetts Democratic Convention was a great success! Every Ward elected delegates to the upcoming Convention in Springfield.

It’s Summertime, which means it’s an excellent time to consider your annual support of the GDCC. We ask for a voluntary annual dues fee of only $15 to help defray the costs of operating the GDCC. This can be made at the ActBlue button just below.

If you are able to, please consider making a recurring, monthly donation of just $5, $10 or even $20. Our current monthly expenses are such that, if only a dozen folks made a recurring donation of $10 or $20 we would be completely covered month-to-month!
