I care about all people.
- Patti Goulart, Gloucester
It is the party of inclusivity, compassion, and moral integrity
relative to the call to put human dignity above greed.
– Amy Shapiro-Kaznocha, Gloucester
I grew up when the Vietnam War was raging and the South was being
disintegrated. Kennedy and Johnson’s political value were ones I could
identify with; the Great Society is now sadly being disintegrated.
- Joyce Fossa, Rockport
Franklin, Eleanor, Harry, JFK, RFK, Bill Clinton, Bob Reich, WPA,
Social Security Civil Rights, GI Bill -------Reagan , Nixon Bush 1, Bush
2, Watergate, Iran Contra, Gulf War 1, Gulf War2.”
-Jerry Goulart, Gloucester
We are for a true commonwealth, as opposed to the opposing party
where the mantra is ‘I got mine- fend for yourself!’
-Frank Crotty, Kittery Point, Maine
Because of Rhonda Milligaghn and Mike Harrington (campaign finance).
-Ann Sheinwald, Rockport
I support a clean environment - air and water. Live and let live
society, Civil Liberties, accountability in government and private
corporations!”
-Diane Usewick, Gloucester
Democrats are for the Common Good of our country and of the world.
Democrats represent the interests of the majority of our people – but
not only the majority. A good society is, above all, a Non–Republican!
- Jonathan Bayliss, Gloucester
From the time my father, Chairman of the Slavic Department of
Harvard, was called to Washington to interpret for Molotov and Roosevelt
during WWII. There was no question of my being anything else. Democrats
I knew were educated, concerned, thoughtful, and mostly honest. I would
never be anything else.
-Nan Chase, Rockport
Democrats come from the heart and soul. I come from a broken home; I
was abused in many different types of abuse. I did not want to live at
the age of 13, so I picked up drugs to be able to live. 17 years later,
dropping to my knees, I have been working on my recovery; I believe I
will give back what was freely given to me.
- Susan Record, Gloucester
Democrats allegedly support clean elections and campaign finance
reform, nationwide, statewide and at the local level!
-Rose McMullen, Rockport
As a “twenty something” year old educator, environmentalist, and
parent, I believe we are all in critical need of educational equity,
universal health fare and programs that protect our children as parents
are faced with longer workdays, to support their families.
-
Jennifer Goulart Amero, Dover, NH (originally Gloucester!)
I am a Democrat because the Democratic Party, more than any other
institution in America has been the instrument for taming the excesses
of capitalism without reducing its capacity to generate goods and
services. Indeed the legislation written and voted into law by Democrats
enhanced the ability of our economic system to provide opportunity for
persons previously excluded because of poverty, race and gender.
-Edmund Traverso, Ipswich
The Democratic principles include the widest participation in
government for all citizens:
• Government as the arbitrator and protector of individual citizens and
families in our corporate commercial culture.
• Fostering the widest opportunity for success for every citizen to
reach his or her fullest potential.
• Recognition that we are a community of common interest and that
interest is the public interest.
• Government is the way we take action to show we care about each other.
• Distinguish between government spending and government investment;
education and healthcare are areas of investment in citizens that will
be a huge return on investment.”
-Pat Skibbee, West Newbury
Because the Democratic Party has always been the party of the
working class – I have been a party member for over 40 years and worked
for the Party with my Dad even as a small child. The Party has always
supported education, health care, and support for children, elderly and
the infirm.
The Party has supported trade unions and in return the work of the
unions ensured a 40 hour work week and benefits for all citizens, not
only union members (our grandfathers died on picket lines!).
I believe we have fallen from our Path and the Democratic Platform
has slipped to the RIGHT – which to me – means we are no longer the
People’s Party. Both parents are working so many hours to maintain homes
and health insurance that their children are falling thru the cracks. It
is time for the Party to get back on track! Universal health,
especially prescription drugs and funding to care for the elderly in
their homes (the nursing home lobbies have destroyed any chance for
families to care for their elderly), funding for education, and support
systems so parents can parent their children, and support for
alternative energy - rather than killing other human beings for oil -
should be our priorities.”
-Teri Mitton, Gloucester
I want to live in a healthy society which cares about its members,
national and global.
Nationally-
• Supports and open democratic process in which everyone
participates, honestly shares resources and economic opportunity
equitably among all.
• Practices social equity and justice
• Cares and maintains strong institutions – education, law, freedom and
diversity of communications
• Takes a strong stand against violence under any pretext and forbids it
except as a defense against direct personal attack
• Provides a social network to support those in need – the children, the
elderly, disabled, etc.
• Has a strong sense of responsibility for stewardship of the earth and
acts energetically to fulfill it
• Maintains a clear separation between church and state
Globally-
• Works collaboratively with other nations to build and effective
global community based on the above principles.
• Eschews violence except to defend itself when directly attacked.
