State Rep. Ferrante to speak
at February Meeting
Please join us on Thursday, Feb. 9, for our monthly meeting. Please note that this meeting will be held at The Gloucester House, 63 Rogers St. Come at 7 p.m. for light refreshments and a half-hour social. The meeting will begin at 7:30. All Democrats are welcome.
Guest speaker Ann-Margaret Ferrante will brief us on her work for local communities and the state as well as the key issues facing the
legislature this year.
Rep. Ferrante has represented the 5th Essex district in the state legislature since early 2009, following a decisive victory in the November 2008 election. She is the House Vice Chair of Environment, Natural Resources and Agriculture and also serves on the joint committees for State Administration and Oversight and Ways and Means. She has been an effective advocate for the fishing industry, calling for an independent investigation of federal regulatory practices, and for reproductive and health care rights.
Representative Ferrante is an attorney with her own practice (Kieley, Visnick and Ferrante) in Rockport and Gloucester. She worked in Congressman Joe Kennedy's office, was a legislative aide to State Sen. Bruce Tarr, and served as the Executive Director of the Massachusetts Fisheries Recovery Commission. Her local board service includes the Sawyer Free Library, the Northeast Seafood Coalition, the Cape Ann Savings Bank, and Seniorcare.
Ann-Margaret graduated from Gloucester High School and Tufts University, where she majored in economics and international relations. She obtained a law degree from Suffolk University in 1999, and began practicing law in 2000.

GDCC Voter Outreach Program
Feb. 4
The Massachusetts Democratic Party has developed a new postcard initiative that involves reaching out to Democrats who don't vote in every election as well as unenrolled individuals who have voted in Democratic primaries. The GDCC is enthusiastically participating in this initiative and is seeking volunteers to help mail postcards and visit homes of likely voters. We are eager to learn from the first experience and repeat the effort throughout this election year.
VoteBuilder, the powerful new database developed by the State Party, will be used to create address lists and maps for volunteers ( 3,000 perspective Gloucester voters have already been identified!!). By targeting smaller groups of these individuals we can be very effective, BUT, we need volunteers.
The time commitment is minimal. Saturday morning, Feb. 4 at 10:00am we will meet at the Gloucester Community Cinema (21 Main St.) to have a short training session, pick up materials, and visit selected neighborhoods in pairs to knock on doors.
If you would like to participate in any way (even if you can't make it on the 4th), please call Karen Bell ( 978-283-3209 ) or e-mail her at knevabell@gmail.com
YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!!
